SUSTAINABILITY
Throughout history timber framing has proven to be a sustainable building technique, utilizing materials that are natural, self sustaining, recycalable and biodegradable.
Resourses
We prefer to use local materials as much as possible in our projects. Occasionaly we will cut a frame entirely from timbers that were located on the property where the building will stand.
Life Cycle
Timber Frames have been built to last for millennium, all while enduring the everyday elements, to severe natural disasters. When a building stands for a long period of time using natural materials it is inherently more sustainable than something with a life span of only a few decades; like most common architecture in America today. This life span means that the building will use much less material, since it only needs minor maintenance instead of replacement or major renovation every 20-75 years.
Planning Ahead
When considering the life span of a quality built timber frame home it is important to plan ahead. We use a wall system that provides an open chase beneath the interior finish, therefore, updating is simplified. The concept of disentanglement encompasses planning for all the different elements of a building, (i.e. electrical, mechanical, audio, etc.) allowing the design to be updated and/or modified as warranted. When you need to update mechanicals or even remodel a whole room there is much less involved than in a common stick built home, or a home built with sips where the utilities are commonly run through chases that are not easily accessible, or accessible at all once the house is completed
