FOUNDATIONContemporary foundations have become an element of convenience for a large majority of the construction field. They are designed and implemented to ease the labor of the contractor and their subs, taking little account of the environment, or good building practice. This has become such a standard of operation, often leading the theme of the project. The limited standard offering of types of foundations, (concrete,) that dominates the market overlook the vast and varied history of this part of architecture. Large gapping holes are ripped into the land, blasting ledge and tearing channels across the earth, without asking the question is this the best way? Is this the healthiest way?
We take each project and it’s intended site and look at what that practical environment offers us and asks of us in return, (basements for example often are not the best practice, just what is offered and understood.) We prefer natural dry laid stone when ever a project would support it, however other options are viable if done consciously, taking the environment and the budget into mind.
We can offer a client every option available today as well as the traditional standards that have held up our human architecture for the millenniums past. Stone, earth and wood in their natural state often are the true best practice, if approached with the necessary skill and respect for the old crafts.
